Getting weary of “girl is awesome because she flouts girliness” trope (as opposed to “girl is just awesome”) and also “mom is the uptight gender roles-upholding one” (as opposed to it coming from daddy, who has more to gain from it, because women always gotta be in opposition to each other amirite) but I guess her hair is super pretty

Eh, she looks just awesome (did you see that shaft splinter?) in medieval times to me, but *looks movie up* apparently that is what it’s about. Guess I’m not tired of it yet and this chick’d be a much better role model for wee gingers than Ariel. :P

Women do police each other. It sucks. A lot. Coulda seen that coming from either parent really but I’m not atuned to media trends.

I believe the point was like: why does she have to have that moment of getting angry at her dress? :( Couldn’t she be more like “I’m sorry, dress. ;_; You’re not suited to this task. *rip*” instead of “Hate for this!! It is girly and girl-ness is holding me back all the time! *hulk-breakout*”

Yes, as an affirmedly super-not-feminine girl myself, I am still sick of the dichotomy that is set up where you are EITHER ~a girl who likes dresses~ OR ~a girl who likes to shoot a bow and arrow.~ In fact this is precisely why I like Bo from Lost Girl, who likes to dress like a pretty princess sometimes but also gets all practical-clothing’d up and goes out to kick some ass. There isn’t some stupid fucking “you’re girly OR badass” thing going on.

And the point isn’t that women do police each other sometimes in real life - the point is that I’m tired of seeing it come from the mom all the time while the dad is the super-understanding one in the media. I mean maybe this movie is just going to blow my mind with some kind of new, fun take on it, but it always comes out to me like “gee you should have listened to your sensible manly man dad - hysterical, pearl-clutching mom was just being hysterical again and in the end we sure proved her wrong!”
